SPRINGFIELD, NJ, AUG. 6, 2011 – Local 825 of the International Union of Operating Engineers announced its support for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s proposed toll increases to fund much-needed capital improvements that will create thousands of jobs and stimulate the region’s economy.

The announcement came in response to the Port Authority recommendation yesterday to raise tolls for the first time since 2008 and only the third time since 2001.

IUOE Local 825 awards scholarships & grants for 2011-2012, winners show achievement, service & commitment to labor

SPRINGFIELD, NJ, JUNE 13, 2011 – Local 825 of the International Union of Operating Engineers has awarded scholarships and grants to five high school seniors out of a field of 20 qualified applicants who have demonstrated high academic achievement, community service and a commitment to unionism.

The scholarship program, which is open to the children or grandchildren of Local 825’s members, offers two scholarships valued at $10,000 each year ($2,500 a year over four years) and three one-time grants of $1,500.

IUOE Local 825 Backs Clean Energy Pipeline Construction, Urges Federal, State & Local Officials to Approve

SPRINGFIELD, NJ, FEB 14, 2011 – Construction on a pipeline that would bring clean energy and more than 5,200 jobs to New Jersey should be allowed to begin, according to Local 825 of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

Representing more than 6,500 heavy equipment operators in New Jersey and parts of New York, Local 825 is urging federal, state and local officials to approve the project without costly delay.

“New Jersey needs an expanded source of clean, reliable energy to fuel our economy and add jobs,” said Local 825 Business Manager Greg Lalevee. “This project will eliminate bottlenecks in the existing pipeline grid and allow natural gas to flow where it’s needed most, while creating more than 5,000 jobs.”
