SPRINGFIELD, NJ – To many, Labor Day means a final, long weekend at the shore, a picnic or barbecue or a sale at the mall. On this Labor Day, take a moment to remember how it all began and how we got here from there.

Labor Day pays tribute to American workers past and present. It is a day of pride that commemorates the social and economic contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well being of our country throughout its history.

IUOE Local 825 endorses Rep. John Amodeo (R-2) for re-election

John Amodeo represents District 2 in the state Assembly and is a retired member of Local 825. For years he has been an advocate for working people. Today — because of his courageous vote to reform the New Jersey’s pension and health system and save taxpayers more than $120 billion — he finds himself without the endorsement of the AFL-CIO.

We proudly stand with Assemblyman Amodeo and applaud his record and his courage. We urge all our members in District 2 to stand by him too and reelect him in November.

SPRINGFIELD, NJ, AUG. 6, 2011 – Local 825 of the International Union of Operating Engineers announced its support for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s proposed toll increases to fund much-needed capital improvements that will create thousands of jobs and stimulate the region’s economy.

The announcement came in response to the Port Authority recommendation yesterday to raise tolls for the first time since 2008 and only the third time since 2001.

IUOE Local 825 awards scholarships & grants for 2011-2012, winners show achievement, service & commitment to labor

SPRINGFIELD, NJ, JUNE 13, 2011 – Local 825 of the International Union of Operating Engineers has awarded scholarships and grants to five high school seniors out of a field of 20 qualified applicants who have demonstrated high academic achievement, community service and a commitment to unionism.

The scholarship program, which is open to the children or grandchildren of Local 825’s members, offers two scholarships valued at $10,000 each year ($2,500 a year over four years) and three one-time grants of $1,500.

Gov. Christie and Triple Five — owner of Mall of America® — unveil plans for “the American Dream at Meadowlands”

The American Dream will create more than 8,900 construction jobs over the next two years and up to 35,000 permanent jobs once it is fully operational. It is expected to attract 60 million annual visits and will generate millions in tax revenue.

IUOE Local 825 Applauds Residents & Workers who Attended Jersey City Council Meeting on Spectra Pipeline Expansion

SPRINGFIELD, NJ, FEB 23, 2011 – Operating engineers Local 825 praised Spectra Energy (NYSE SE) for its update to the Jersey City Council last evening on its proposal to build a natural gas pipeline through parts of the city.

“We were pleased that at least half of the people who attended tonight’s meeting support the project, which would be a boost to the local economy and job opportunities,” said Greg Lalevee, Local 825’s business manager.
