Joining Local 825 lets you participate in job opportunities and a host of career-building and financial benefits.
Our leadership works hard to promote your employment, your career growth and your family interests every single day. We do this in many ways:
We fight for jobs. We are proactive and always work to promote higher rates of employment for our members, despite the weak economy.
We give you an advantage in the workplace. As an Operating Engineer for Local 825 you will offer more than just another job-seeker.
We invest in you, providing top-quality training. Our members, journeymen and apprentices continually update their skills in our state-of-the-art facilities, using the latest heavy equipment on the job today.
We provide health care, and pension benefits. While the number of employers offering health benefits steadily declines and many large employers abandon defined benefit retirement plans, these benefits have been and will remain an important part of your union membership.
In short, as a result of collective bargaining agreements negotiated between your employer(s) and Local 825, union members enjoy a range of benefits that can no longer be taken for granted.
In return, we expect your commitment to work hard, to dedicate yourself to being the best you can be and to representing your brothers with a positive attitude and a high degree of integrity and ethical behavior. These are the hallmarks that set us apart.
Under federal law, you are entitled to join or form a union, select representatives and bargain collectively with your employer.
These rights are intended to balance the relationship between workers and employers, not to be adversarial. They encourage labor and management to negotiate agreements that benefit all parties. This enables contractors to offer more highly skilled and productive engineers while providing appropriate compensation in exchange for a higher level of productivity.
The union can help identify and resolve problems on the job before they escalate. And as a union member, you have a right to vote on your contract, giving you a voice your employer can't ignore.
Our Welfare Plan provides quality benefits to members and their families.
With advances in medicine and longer average life expectancy, members should prepare themselves for a longer period in retirement.
The Local 825 Welfare Plan includes medical, hospital, death and survivor benefits, temporary disability, vision, dental and prescription drug coverage.
Preventive health care is covered, and health fairs offering clinical screenings are conducted annually. Members and their families have the option of receiving care with little or no out-of-pocket expense by choosing from one of the many healthcare providers who participate in the Fund's provider network.
We employ nurses to help families to secure the most value from their benefits, to understand their treatment options and to manage their health.
Pension & retiree benefits
Local 825's defined-benefit Pension Plan specifies the amount payable to a member for as long as he or she lives. With the Union's Annuity Plan, members who make investment choices that preserve and grow their contributions will receive a benefit at retirement equal to their account balance.
