November 22, 2011 -- LOCAL 825 DONATES EMERGENCY TRAILER AFTER WITNESSING DIFFICULT RESCUE IN HUDSON VALLEY

ULSTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Emergency officials in Ulster County received a generous donation to help with water rescues.

The Sheriff's office's swift water rescue and dive team received a trailer from local 825, International Union of Operating Engineers. This comes after members witnessed a water rescue by the Ulster County dive team during Tropical Storm Irene. They realized the dive team could not bring equipment and supplies on site because the rescue team did not have a trailer able to navigate difficult road conditions.

This trailer will help the dive team keep that equipment close at hand during a rescue mission.

John Amodeo represents District 2 in the state Assembly and is a retired member of Local 825.  For years he has been an advocate for working people. Today -- because of his courageous vote to reform the New Jersey’s pension and health system and save taxpayers more than $120 billion -- he finds himself without the endorsement of the AFL-CIO.

We proudly stand with Assemblyman Amodeo and applaud his record and his courage. We urge all our members in District 2 to stand by him too and reelect him in November.

August 2011

August 6, 2011 -- SPRINGFIELD, NJ – Local 825 announced its support for the Port Authority's toll increase proposal to fund much-needed capital improvements that will develop thousands of jobs and fuel the region's economy. While nobody likes toll increases, we believe a "pay-as-you-go" approach funded by tolls is more responsible than a "spend-now, pay-later" approach, which postpones progress and add millions to our debt-load.

Feb. 14, 2011 -- IUOE LOCAL 825 backs clean energy pipeline construction, urges federal, state and local officials to approve -- Construction on a pipeline that would bring clean energy and more than 5,200 jobs to New Jersey should be allowed to begin, according to Local 825 of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

The project would include approximately 15.5 miles of new pipeline, which would run through parts of Bayonne, Jersey City and offshore Hoboken, as well as parts of Staten Island and Manhattan. It would replace approximately five miles of pipeline in Linden and Staten Island and would modify existing facilities in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.

"New Jersey needs an expanded source of clean, reliable energy to fuel our economy and add jobs," said Local 825 Business Manager Greg Lalevee. "This project will eliminate bottlenecks in the existing pipeline grid and allow natural gas to flow where it's needed most, while creating more than 5,000 jobs."

December 2010

Dec. 30, 2010 -- The Port Authority of NY/NJ has announced plans for the Bayonne Bridge Project. The thousands of jobs at Port Newark-Elizabeth’s container shipping facility represent a vital economic engine for our region. The Port’s future depends upon an ability to receive larger ships. Port Newark-Elizabeth is among the largest shipping hubs in North America and needs to maintain its competitive advantage. Had the Port Authority chosen not to allow access to these larger ships, countless dollars of economic activity and several jobs might be lost to other competing ports. Read more.

Dec. 1, 2010 -- The PurGen One Project will create over 9,000 jobs in New Jersey during construction!

PurGen is an Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plant, with carbon capture and sequestration, to be located in Linden, NJ. Easily available coal arrives by rail or barge and is then converted to a synthetic gas. During this process, harmful sulfur and mercury is safely removed. Carbon dioxide is then separated and safely stored deep under the earth's surface far offshore.

PurGen will help reduce our state's dependence on dirty coal plants in and out of New Jersey, helping improve our region's air quality. PurGen is NOT a coal fired power plant! Is NOT experimental! And will NOT cause air pollution!
